The color purple by Alice Walker: a brief overview

In this heartwarming epistolary novel, which is the story of two sisters, Celie and Nettie, Alice Walker condemned racist and sexual oppression and harshly criticized the brutality with which black women in particular in the South to the victims. It's an extraordinary, painful and unpleasant history playing Celies life over two decades by the beginning of their cards at the age of 14, when she is sexually abused by her stepfather, who later removed their children.

The author uses the themes of violence and sexual abuse, a stunning effect and the development of the main character of Celie, its transformation from a sample in this excellent novel unhappy and miserable person in a woman, independent, successful and happy.
