The color purple by Alice Walker: a brief overview

In this heartwarming epistolary novel, which is the story of two sisters, Celie and Nettie, Alice Walker condemned racist and sexual oppression and harshly criticized the brutality with which black women in particular in the South to the victims. It's an extraordinary, painful and unpleasant history playing Celies life over two decades by the beginning of their cards at the age of 14, when she is sexually abused by her stepfather, who later removed their children.

Celie that begins the real nightmare with her marriage with Albert, that rather needs a servant as a wife and four children care, take care of your home and work in their areas but Celie is happy to save the claws to marry him to her sister, Nettie of his father. The latter restricted to leave so they reject sexual advances is the husband of his sister but to Africa as a missionary commitment, write to Celie. With this painful separation and a total silence by Nettie deteriorates their lives and Celie begins to write to God; a correspondence without response from hope, but nevertheless this missive to save them from despair... With the sensual Shug Avery Celie is familiar with your body, learn self esteem and love; the extent of the abuse suffered in her husband to realize also the strength to start a new life with Shug gives you. Letters from his sister become completely, when he learns that his father was not really his biological parents and his childhood home actually belonged to her and Nettie, since her mother died.

These letters also show that her sister Nettie lives with a clergy, who adopted his two sons and a few decades later, when you sisters are finally again a joyful meeting. The author uses the themes of violence and sexual abuse, a stunning effect and the development of the main character of Celie, its transformation from a sample in this excellent novel unhappy and miserable person in a woman, independent, successful and happy.
